The day after the hearing of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) concerning the result of the final of the African Cup of Nations between Morocco and Senegal, a lawyer close to the case gives “200%” chance to the Teranga Lions of being crowned champions.

Ten months after the incredible final of the 2025 African Cup of Nations between Morocco and Senegal, won 1-0 after extra time by the Lions of Teranga in Rabat, on January 18, the winner of the tournament will finally be known! The CAF appeal jury awarded the continental coronation to Morocco last March due to the withdrawal from the field of the Senegalese team before Brahim Diaz’s (missed) penalty, and the African confederation officially relies on the judgment of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

After the CAS hearing lasting just over five hours on Thursday in Lausanne, it is time to wait. The independent jurisdiction is given “a few days, even a few weeks” to deliver its verdict, with detailed explanations on the fate of this completely crazy finale.

“The chances are 200%” for Senegal

The Senegalese camp is obviously very optimistic about the confirmation of its coronation. Me Patrick Kabou, the lawyer for the 18 Senegalese supporters imprisoned after the excesses that occurred when the Pape Thiaw players returned to the locker room, took note of the file produced by his colleague Me Seydou Diagne for the benefit of the Senegalese federation. Questioned by RTS (Swiss Radio and Television), Me Kabou is absolutely convinced of the victory of Sadio ManĂ©’s Senegalese.

“When we have in front of us the brief produced by the team led by Me Diagne, the chances are, if I had to give a percentage, 200%. It is consistent, very rigorous and very precise in the requests to the CAS. With the experience of this type of procedure, I believe that there is, to my knowledge, no other possibility than to give a favorable decision to the State of Senegal. We will have to continue to stay with our cup since it is already ours. We will have to, if possible, find another way to celebrate it again, because we have already celebrated it. That’s why I tell you our chances are 200 to 300%.”declared Me Kabou on RTS.
