This Friday, October 9 marks the launch by Canal+ of a new platform dedicated to sport: Sport+. With slightly delayed summaries on the menu, multiplexes of the Champions League, Europa League or Premier League, and major events broadcast entirely live.
Canal+ imagined Sport+ as a showcase, in order to attract potential new subscribers. The said platform therefore promises to be completely free, to be discovered this weekend through the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix. All complemented by numerous data and statistics to underline the group’s expertise in sport.
The Multi-live Sport+ mode will allow users to experience the big evenings of European or English football live. Certainly not quite like in a classic multiplex. “It will remain a wall of vignettes, without switching to full screen, but with the sound of the multiplex to give the flavor,” specifies Thomas Sénécal, the sports director of Canal+.
Eight million potential subscribers to convince
If this is a marketing tool with widely visible gateways to take the step of subscription, several meetings are already planned to satisfy non-paying viewers and subscribers. In addition to the Singapore GP, Top 14 and MotoGP are notably announced. Like the Rennes-Crète football posters in the Europa League this Thursday, October 15 or Lyon-Marseille in the Arkema Premier League on Saturday, October 24.
Managing Director of Canal+ Europe, Christophe Pinard-Legry estimates that eight million people consult the group’s content each month via its official website or application. “The goal is of course to show them our know-how and to seduce them to convince them one day to take out a subscription,” he whispers.
