The Senegalese federation delivered its first impressions at the end of the CAS hearing, which will soon deliver its verdict concerning the CAN 2025 final between Senegal and Morocco.

The soap opera is approaching. Last January, Senegal initially won the CAN final against Morocco (1-0). However, the meeting was marked by a strong protest from the Senegalese players, who had temporarily left the pitch following a penalty awarded to the Atlas Lions at the very end of the game.

Yes, but last March, there was a twist: CAF canceled this result and gave Morocco victory on the green carpet (3-0), considering that the Lions of Teranga had forfeited by leaving the field. Shocked, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) then contacted the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to challenge this decision and recover its title.

The decisive CAS hearing was held this Thursday in Lausanne, Switzerland, behind closed doors. Following the pleadings of the two federations, the body announced that its final decision will require time for deliberation and will be pronounced “in a few days, or even a few weeks. »

“Senegal defended well”

At the end of the hearing, Abdoulaye Sow, secretary general of the FSF, said he was satisfied with the way in which the Lions of Teranga defended themselves. “What we can say is that our lawyers presented our pleadings, presented all our observations and were heard by the arbitral panel,”
the Senegalese leader told RMC Sport.

And to add: “Now it remains for the CAS to make its decision in the days or weeks to come… I cannot say what really happened, because it is a secret of the deliberation. But I can assure you that Senegal defended itself well. » For its part, the Moroccan Federation (FRMF) did not wish to express itself after leaving the Arbitral Tribunal
