Scheduled for 2029, the next call for tenders for Ligue 1 TV rights could ultimately be brought forward by two years. Ligue 1+, the LFP channel, may be living its last months.

New change of broadcaster in sight for Ligue 1? While it is only beginning its second season, Ligue 1+ could end sooner than expected. According to The TeamOlivier Bramly, general manager of LFP Media, announced to the League’s board of directors his intention to launch a call for tenders for the TV rights to the championship over the period 2027-2032.

His predecessor, Nicolas de Tavernost, had only planned to consult the various market players in 2029, again for a five-year cycle. But faced with the economic difficulties encountered by the clubs, who have barely received anything since the LFP channel took over from Mediapro, Prime Video, Canal+, DAZN and beIN Sports, things have accelerated.

Ligue 1+, is it already over?

Currently, only money from Ligue 1+ subscriptions feeds elite teams, which only represents
“a few million euros per season” for each of them, says the sports daily. Now that the law authorizes it to market Ligue 1 in a single batch, LFP Media hopes to convince a new broadcaster to bet bigger on the rights to the competition.

Who ? Channels like Canal+ and RMC Sport, but also digital platforms such as Netflix, Apple and Prime Video, have reportedly been surveyed in recent months. But Ligue 1+ has not yet breathed its last. The LFP channel could actually survive if an actor decided to pay a good price to obtain exclusive distribution, without buying the rights.
