The case surrounding the 115 accusations against Manchester City takes on a new dimension with the entry into play of the airline Etihad. The historic sponsor of the Citizens is now considering legal action against the Premier League, after being indirectly implicated in the conclusions of the independent panel on the club’s commercial agreements between 2009 and 2018. According to the Daily MailEtihad categorically denies any involvement in irregular arrangements and criticizes the Premier League for never having consulted it during the procedure. As a reminder, the verdict refers to more than 970 million euros in hidden financing, out of around 1.11 billion euros in declared commercial income, during a period when City won eight trophies.

The airline reacted strongly to the publication of the verdict and assures that it has already had consequences on its image. In a statement, Etihad said: “Etihad categorically rejects any findings or implications that the airline was ever involved in improper commercial arrangements. » The company adds: “At no time has the Premier League contacted or engaged with Etihad as part of the process relating to the Commission’s opinion. » Etihad now intends to examine its possibilities on a legal level: “Etihad will consult relevant legal advisors on the options and remedies available to protect its interests. » For their part, Manchester City must still appeal the verdict against him.
