Former Montpellier winger, Jacek Ziober passed away in the early 1990s. The MHSC paid him a wonderful tribute.

If you followed the French championship in the early 1990s, its name probably means something to you. Jacek Ziober, the former Montpellier winger, died this Tuesday following a long illness. The Hérault club paid him a nice tribute.

“It is with infinite sadness that the MHSC learned of the death of Jacek Ziober at the age of 60. A Pailladin striker in the early 1990s, the Polish international played 110 matches for La Paillade and scored 22 goals. We think very much of his family and loved ones,” writes the club led by Laurent Nicollin in a press release.

Jacek Ziober, European hero of Montpellier

Voted best Polish player in 1990, Jacek Ziober joined Montpellier from Lodz, the season which followed the victory in the Coupe de France. He had therefore participated in the adventure of the Hérault club in the Coupe des Coupes.

Ghislain Printant remembers it well. “ What sad news. So many memories Jacek, our European adventure, Eindhoven, Bucharest, Manchester, your kindness and your rapid adaptation under Henry’s ordersk (Kasperczak). RIP Jacek. Courage to the whole family. Condolences”,
wrote the one who was then goalkeeping coach at MHSC.

During this European campaign, Montpellier eliminated PSV Eindhoven (1-0, 0-0) and Steaua Bucharest (5-0, 3-0), before coming up against Manchester United (1-1, 0-2). It was Jacek Ziober who scored the first goal of this adventure, against Eindhoven. The native of Lodz was also a Polish international, with 8 in 46 caps.
