Manchester City: former president expects relegation

Former Manchester City chairman David Bernstein believes financial sanctions would not be enough if the club were found guilty of the vast majority of 115 charges relating to the Premier League’s financial rules. The former manager of the Citizens, who also chaired the English Federation between 2011 and 2013, considers that the sanction could directly call into question the club’s presence in the English elite. A position which comes as City are expected to appeal the decision, while its president Khaldoon Al Mubarak says he still wants “prove the club’s innocence”.

Bernstein relies in particular on the expenses incurred by Manchester City during the last summer transfer window to estimate that a simple fine would not be sufficient. The club has in fact spent around 512.8 million euros this summer, including nearly 145.7 million euros to secure the services of Enzo Fernandez. Asked by talkSPORTthe former president of Citizens therefore defended the idea of ​​an exemplary sanction, believing that “money won’t be enough” given the scale of the allegations against the club.
