This season again, Real Madrid is back in the campaign against the refereeing and Javier Tebas. The incendiary reaction of the merengues was not long in coming following the comments of the LaLiga boss to defend the referee of the Madrid derby lost by Casa Blanca (1-2). Real Madrid have published an official statement to attack Tebas and accuse him of making the competition biased. Faced with these criticisms, it only took two hours for Javier Tebas to return the favor to Florentino PĂ©rez’s club via a post published on his social networks.
“I completely agree with this sentence: the president of LaLiga is not the owner of the competition. Neither does the president of Real Madrid.” Representing all clubs means defending equality and fairness between them. Even when we say that “LaLiga is worthless” without Real Madrid or that referees harm “the activity that allows them to earn their living”. Concerning these assertions, which motivated my response, their press release does not say a word. Now they are hiding behind the fact that I responded to an “independent” journalist. But neither this discourse is new, nor the strategy of diverting attention from other problems. They have been doing this for years from Real Madrid TV and through their spokespersons, speaking and writing, day after day, about a distorted La Liga. Do not pretend to present as a foreign opinion the discourse that you feed from your own television channel and from the club authorities. They demand that I help build confidence in the impartiality of the competition. It is precisely for this reason that I reject the speech according to which the referees are set up against Real Madrid. Criticizing an arbitration decision is legitimate. Transforming each harm into proof of persecution is something entirely different. Does this build confidence or harm the image of Spanish football? They confuse neutrality and independence. If they mean by neutrality the fact of not taking sides on anything, not even between what is good and what is bad, they are asking me to renounce my responsibility. Independence requires deciding according to one’s own judgment, without pressure or subordination, applying the same rules to everyone and defending the common interest. This means making decisions and positioning yourself, even if Real Madrid don’t like it. Defending the interests of a club does not mean adopting its discourse. And representing everyone does not mean obeying the most powerful either. We must defend the interests of the competition, of LaLiga. I am not the owner of LaLiga and I am not going to manage it as if it belonged to a single club. I respect everyone. I don’t submit to anyone”. It’s said.
