Manchester United have found an original way to recycle the old Old Trafford pitch. Replaced this summer for the first time in 14 years, the turf of the Théâtre des Rêves was cut into small cubes measuring 7 cm by 7 cm, now offered to supporters for 125 pounds sterling each (€145), reports The Sun. Presented in a black box accompanied by a photo of the stadium, each piece is sold as a one-of-a-kind collectible. The club had already launched a similar operation during the previous change of pitch, before the 2012-2013 season, with significant success with fans.
This initiative comes as Manchester United’s finances remain fragile. The club recorded a pre-tax loss of 54 million euros for the 2025-2026 financial year and has accumulated losses of 516 million over the last seven financial years, despite record income of 787.79 million. United is also preparing its project for a new 100,000-seat stadium, for which 73 million have already been spent on land acquisition. Other big clubs have already marketed their old pitch: FC Barcelona sold chunks of Camp Nou for prices of up to around 400 euros, while Arsenal offered plots of Highbury before moving to the Emirates Stadium in 2006.
