Following a series of three consecutive defeats, Olympique de Marseille travel to Besiktas in the Europa League before facing PSG on Sunday evening. Bruno Genesio chose the strategy to adopt.

When we remain on three defeats in a row like OM, beaten successively by Monaco, Paris FC and Rennes, we would undoubtedly like another program than this: trip to Besikats in the Europa League on Thursday evening, and reception of Paris Saint-Germain three days later. However, this is the menu proposed to the Phocaeans, and Bruno Genesio must adapt.

The OM coach must rely on a very small squad this season, due to the club’s economic constraints. But Genesio will still make a certain turnover on Thursday in Türkiye. “ For the moment, some players have not yet had the opportunity to show their qualities in matches even though they put 100% into training every day and give their all. I think it’s time for some to have an opportunity to show it in competition,” confided the Olympian coach at a press conference, relays Le Phocéen.

The starters in Ligue 1, the substitutes in the Europa League? This could suggest that OM is leaving the C3 in the background, for lack of having the resources to play on all fronts. But Bruno Genesio assures the opposite. “ We are going to play this competition to the fullest. I always did it with the clubs I was involved with in the European Cup. I can take the example of the Champions League with Lille: we played against Atlético de Madrid on Wednesday before facing Lens on Saturday. I made several changes on Wednesday and everyone called me crazy before the match. In the end, it went well. Today, I have a group at my disposal who work well, who are concerned and who have qualities. Whatever team starts tomorrow, it will not be a team aligned to say that we abandon this match because there is the Classic on Sunday. It’s a competition that we want to play in, a very good competition with very good teams. »

For OM, it will take time

However, with the numerous departures suffered this summer, and the absence of recruits, OM does not seem likely to play the leading roles. Bruno Genesio is aware of this, and he took advantage of this press briefing to send a message to Olympian supporters.

“It will certainly take a little more patience. The supporters showed it and I thank them. They will not be present tomorrow, but I still want to thank them for their behavior in Rennes, from start to finish. This is also the message that I want to convey, as a technician, to the entire Marseille community: it may take a little time to find the Olympique de Marseille that we all want to find again. »
