The battle continues. Spain’s victory in the final of the 2026 World Cup at the expense of Argentina (1-0, ap) officially opened the way for the 24th edition of the World Cup, co-organized by Spain, Morocco and Portugal, with three matches played in Latin America to celebrate the centenary of the competition.
While Spain and Morocco are already arguing behind the scenes over the organization of the final, Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), continues to demand this final meeting. A few days after affirming that the final of the next World Cup would take place in Casablanca, before being taken over by Fifa, the Moroccan leader was at it again.
Also Minister Delegate for the Budget, Fouzi Lekjaa spoke in an interview given to Young AfricaMonday, while he is in the middle of the campaign before the Moroccan legislative elections on September 23. The 56-year-old leader took the opportunity to return to his comments made last Thursday, when he explained that
“the province of Benslimane will have the honor of hosting the final of the 2030 World Cup” And
“anyone who aspires to be part of the next government has no choice but to develop this province”.
Fouzi Lekjaa explains
“We never talked about a final, we follow the processes, we respect the procedures and the regulations”he explains before continuing: “Morocco, we explained from the start, is representative of Africa, so we are a continent alongside our European colleagues, represented by Spain and Portugal. We are not three countries with rivalry logics. We work for logics of complementarity that challenge civilization, culture, etc. But we will always be there for the rights of Africa and the Kingdom of Morocco, which, in my opinion, have the right to organize a World Cup final for the second time in history in a century. »
Great support from Gianni Infantino for his re-election as head of Fifa in March 2027, despite his controversial then aborted project around the marketing of the World Cup, Fouzi Lekjaa therefore intends to continue his lobbying. It remains to be seen whether his fight will ultimately bear fruit. The awarding of the final could in particular be linked to the fate of the current president of the International Football Federation, which has recently been very contested.
