Deschamps’ big return to Juve?
As a reminder, it is this same Spalletti, coach of Naples, 2023 Italian champion, who led the Italian team to disaster. He left his post in June 2025 after the Azzurri’s 3-0 defeat against Norway, in the middle of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The Old Lady chose him to succeed Igor Tudor in October 2025 but the team, moribund, finished in a poor 6th place in the championship, without qualifying for the Champions League.
Didier Deschamps is obviously a great player in the history of Juventus, where he played from 1994 to 1999 (178 matches, for 4 goals). The defensive midfielder trained at FC Nantes was crowned Italian champion three times and lost two Champions League finals in a row, in 1997 against Dortmund (3-1) and in 1998 against Real Madrid (1-0), each time with Zinédine Zidane at number 10. The Basque has 141 matches with former goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi and 125 with idol Alessandro Del Piero. Deschamps then coached Juve in 2006-2007, taking the club back to Serie A, before leaving over disagreements with management.
