Premier League: Manchester City cracks United

Traveling to its neighbor United, Manchester City managed to win at Old Trafford, despite a long numerical inferiority (0-1).

Manchester United had (almost) everything to hope to bring down Manchester City. But at home, and despite a numerical superiority established from the twenty-third minute of play, the Red Devils missed their point and let the Skyblues win thanks to the only goal of the game from Erling Haaland (0-1). In the standings, City are second in the Premier League (behind Arsenal on goal difference) while United do not take off and find themselves thirteenth.

If the Cityzens won, they obviously owe it to their fierce desire to resist and seek this precious goal. But it is also and perhaps above all because Manchester United did not show anything sharp enough to win. Or at least not enough. There were still these two posts found successively by Marcus Rashford and Patrick Dorgu. There was also this decisive duel won by Gianluigi Donnarumma against Bryan Mbeumo in the final seconds of added time.

But nothing happened. The lack of pressing in the middle, the far too numerous technical inaccuracies were not for Michael Carrick’s men. On the City side, the scenario was necessarily seen differently. Weighed down at the moment of the logical expulsion of Phil Foden, author of an ugly gesture with a sole sent into the lower abdomen of Bruno Fernandes (23rd), the visitors nevertheless quickly found an organization allowing them to resist.

And even better since on a cross from the left, Erling Haaland appeared at the far post, taking advantage of the absence of opposing marking to deflect the ball into the back of the net (0-1, 60th). However, there were long minutes of uncertainty regarding the validity of the goal, but the VAR ultimately ruled in favor of the Skyblues.

Manchester United were never able to get back on track and conceded a second defeat in four days of the championship. With just one success on the clock, there is no crisis yet, but the state of alert is already slowly approaching for the Reds Devils who are only three points ahead of the red zone.
