According to a revelation made this Wednesday by L’Équipe, the French Football Federation will formalize the withdrawal of its support for the fifty-six-year-old Italian-Swiss-Lebanese who is aiming for re-election to the presidency of FIFA on March 18, 2027 near Rabat (Morocco). As part of the executive committee organized at the FFF headquarters, President Philippe Diallo should confirm this famous step backwards vis-Ă -vis the all-powerful leader.
Still the only candidate, Gianni Infantino received the support of his great friend Donald Trump to whom he presented the FIFA “Peace Prize”. He also received that of the boss of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe. But more and more federations have chosen to no longer support it.
Philippe Diallo’s FFF will join the opposition
In Europe alone, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Sweden, Italy, the Netherlands and even Belgium have abandoned Infantino. Same thing for England. UEFA, for its part, is working to push the FIFA boss to leave office.
The North American (CONCACAF) and Asian (AFC) confederations have sent an open letter, with UEFA, to stipulate to Infantino that football “does not belong to any individual”. Pushed for several weeks to express himself more explicitly on the position of the FFF, Philippe Diallo will finally decide.
