The list of 30 nominees for the 2026 Ballon d’Or was revealed on Tuesday and there is no shortage of favorites. A month and a half before the ceremony, which will take place on Monday October 26 in London, it is difficult to predict who Rodri, Kylian Mbappé, Harry Kane, Lamine Yamal, Michael Olise, Fabian Ruiz, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia or even Ousmane Dembélé, the title holder, will win.
Asked about this on the CBS Sports set, Thierry Henry has a clear opinion on the matter. For him, it is Kylian Mbappé who deserves to win this year. “If he had won the World Cup, I think Lionel Messi would have won the Ballon d’Or. And Michael Olise wouldn’t be far away. But Kylian Mbappé is my favorite”declared the 1998 world champion.
Thierry Henry decides for the Ballon d’Or
“People will tell me he didn’t win anything. I think some people should do some research and they will discover that some Ballon d’Or winners didn’t win anything the year before their coronation. For me, it’s Kylian. When you see what he has achieved individually: top scorer in the Champions League, top scorer in La Liga, top scorer at the World Cup…”
And the consultant concludes: “I would go for Kylian, with Michael Olise not far away. » Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, winners of the C1 with PSG, do not enter into the equation, according to him. A choice that will be debated. But whoever wins this 70e edition of the Ballon d’Or, it will be contested. None of the candidates actually tick all the boxes.
