The Algerian Football Federation would have made a strong choice with Brahim Hemdani. Appointed at the head of the Fennecs on September 5, the former U21 coach would have signed a contract that was much less expensive than that of his predecessor Vladimir Petkovic. A difference that would allow the FAF to make significant savings.
According to information from La Gazette du Fennec, the 48-year-old technician would receive between 25,000 and 30,000 euros per month. A salary five to six times lower than that of Vladimir Petkovic, who received around 160,000 euros per month after the renewal of his contract in June, until his departure on August 3. His deputy Anthar Yahia should, for his part, receive between 15,000 and 20,000 euros per month.
But despite this lowered salary, the objectives set for Hemdani remain high. The new coach and his staff are committed until CAN 2027, with a clear condition: reaching at least the semi-finals of the competition, organized in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from June 19 to July 18, 2027. A similar objective was set for Petkovic when his contract was extended.
A contract subject to conditions
The result obtained at CAN 2027 will therefore have a direct consequence on the future of the staff. In the event of failure, Hemdani and Anthar Yahia could leave their positions without compensation, again according to The Gazette du Fennec. Conversely, if they achieve the objectives set, their adventure could continue with an extension of an additional year, until CAN 2028.
The FAF could also review its copy in the event of very good results. A victory at CAN 2027, accompanied by qualification for the 2030 World Cup, would allow the duo to continue until 2030 with a salary increase. In the meantime, the Hemdani choice above all allows the Federation to considerably reduce its expenses: with a salary of less than 50,000 euros per month for the coach, the bill is significantly lower than under Petkovic.
