AS Saint-Etienne supporters have a big thought this Tuesday for Gérard Farison, a former French international who left us at the age of 77 on September 8, 2021.
Farison is the emblematic left-back of the great era of the Greens in the 1970s. Born in Terrenoire (a town which became a district of the Forézienne city), the one who is primarily a parking mechanic in addition to being the left winger of the reserve is a centerpiece of the team built by Robert Herbin, central defender of the team inducted coach in 1972. At the time, ASSE was a pioneer in recruiting young people to the four corners of the Hexagon to form them. The recruitments of goalkeeper Ivan Curkovic and defender Osvaldo Piazza transformed the team into a war machine.
Saint-Etienne misses the C1
In addition to winning French champion titles and the Coupe de France (Farison has five national coronations and three cups), AS Saint-Etienne achieved two epics in the European Champion Clubs’ Cup, reaching the final in 1976. Gérard Farison just missed the final after being injured during the D1 match scheduled a few days before, against Nîmes. The same spring, he was called up to the French team by Michel Hidalgo, at the age of 32, to make his only international selection alongside his Saint-Etienne teammates Christian Synaeghel, Jean-Michel Larqué and Patrick Revelli, during a friendly match against Poland (2-0), in Lens. The former full-back then became a sports instructor at the town hall of Fréjus.
