Despite low audiences last season, Canal+
decided to maintain the Channel Football Club. This broadcast remains an important element of its football ecosystem, with the Channel Champions Club notably.
On August 30, Hervé Mathoux and his gang returned to school. The inauguration of the new stage and Michel Platini as a prestigious guest were not enough to achieve a good audience. The program attracted an average of only 95,000 viewers on
Canal+ and 28,000 on Canal+ Football.
Last night, history repeated itself. Worse. This time, the CFC only attracted 102,000 viewers, or 0.7% market share for a program broadcast “unencrypted”. This is one of the worst scores in the history of the program, since its creation in 2008.
Canal Football Club soon below 100,000 viewers?
As a reminder, during its golden age, the CFC regularly attracted between one and two million viewers. The turning point came at the start of the current decade, with the loss of Ligue 1 rights.
The Pierre Ménès affair, accused by Marie Portolano of sexual assault, clearly marked the end of an era. Iconic figure and “sniper” since 2009, the sports journalist was first suspended from the air before leaving permanently Canal+ in July 2021. From now on, the CFC is focusing on the European Cups and the Premier League, due to not having the French championship exclusively.
