Arsenal have secured the possibility of recovering Ethan Nwaneri from the next winter transfer window. According to Sky Sportthe Gunners have included an option in the 19-year-old attacking midfielder’s loan contract at Borussia Dortmund allowing them to recall him to England from January 1. This clause constituted a non-negotiable condition for the English champion, who himself lacks depth in his offensive sector. Dortmund, in a hurry after Giannis Konstantelias’ serious knee injury, finally accepted this requirement to complete the arrival of Nwaneri. If Arsenal decides to activate this option on time, the loan will not cost BVB anything.
Borussia, however, anticipated the possibility of Nwaneri leaving after just a few months. Arsenal will have to warn the German club early enough, which would then have time to find a solution during the January transfer window. Marcel Regula, 19, already studied this summer, would remain a serious possibility. Dortmund also hope to be able to rely more on their youngsters Samuele Inacio and Mathis Albert, aged 18 and 17 respectively, whose progress could offer internal solutions. Finally, BVB is counting on the return of Konstantelias during the second part of the season, which could also compensate for a possible loss of Nwaneri.
