Michael Olise has already sent a first strong message for this new season. On Saturday evening, the French international was voted man of the match for the German Super Cup after having largely contributed to Bayern Munich’s success against Borussia Dortmund (2-1). A goal, an assist and constant activity: interesting signals after a summer that was, to say the least, eventful and had a slightly bitter taste.
On the pitch at Signal Iduna Park, Olise quickly took charge. It was he who perfectly served Nathaniel Brown for the opener in the 28th minute, before doubling the lead himself in added time of the first period. Omnipresent on his right side, he also caused several fouls and corners, already displaying good physical condition for this first official meeting of the season.
A disappointing end to the World Cup
A performance that comes at just the right time after a more contrasting summer with the Blues. Olise had started the 2026 World Cup very strongly, notably with two assists against Sweden, but his influence gradually reduced in the second part of the competition. In the semi-final against Spain, then during the small final lost to England (4-6), the Bayern player disappointed more, like a French team which finished the tournament without the hoped-for title. In the process, rumors of a desire to join Real Madrid had arisen, sowing trouble in his relations with the inflexible Bavarian management.
The contrast is therefore interesting. Where Olise had seemed to lose a little of his shine over the course of the World Cup, he immediately regained his influence with Bayern. His goal against Dortmund rewarded a complete performance, which allowed him to collect 46% of the votes for the man of the match title. Before being, once again, the one of the season for Bayern and possibly taking off afterwards?
