Current Real Madrid manager José Mourinho revealed a little-known anecdote from his career in his new documentary Netflix : after his departure from Real Madrid in 2013, the Portuguese reached an agreement to become Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor at Manchester United. An arrival which then seemed confirmed, before Mourinho finally decided to return to Chelsea. “When I left Real Madrid, I signed for Manchester United to join the club after Sir Alex”he says, explaining that he was particularly honored by the interest of the Red Devils.

In the documentary, Ferguson also returns to this episode and says he received a call from Mourinho the evening when he finally changed his decision. “He called me and he was crying”remembers the Scotsman, to whom the Portuguese explained that he had given his word to Chelsea and did not want to go back on it. Ferguson admits to having been disappointed, while Mourinho finally returned to Old Trafford three years later, in 2016, after the passage of Louis van Gaal. He notably won the Europa League, the English League Cup and the Community Shield.
