The Premier League is once again crushing the transfer market this summer. According to figures relayed by the Corriere dello SportEnglish clubs have already spent 2.05 billion euros to recruit new players. For comparison, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 together reach 2.047 billion euros. England alone has therefore invested around 3 million euros more than these four championships combined, and represents a little more than half of the cumulative expenditure of the five major European leagues taken into account in these figures.
This domination is explained in particular by the financial means available to English groups, supported by television rights and particularly significant commercial income. Above all, this power no longer only concerns big names like Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea: mid-table teams also have significant sums of money to recruit. Faced with this strike force, Spain, Italy, Germany and France must generally be more selective in their investments, while the Premier League alone continues to weigh as much as its four main European competitors combined.
