Eduardo Camavinga’s situation continues to become more and more worrying at Real Madrid. While he hoped to experience a different summer, the French midfielder went through a particularly difficult period. His dream of playing in the 2026 World Cup vanished after a complicated season in the Madrid jersey, marked by injuries, inconsistent performances and a gradual loss of confidence. Despite his status acquired since his arrival from Stade Rennais, the Frenchman has never really regained his usual influence in the midfield. Worse still, his absence from Didier Deschamps’ list was experienced as a real blow for a player who seemed to have been in the Blues’ plans for several years. While the French team continued its journey in the competition, Camavinga had to follow the tournament from a distance, inevitably with a bitter taste and the feeling of having missed a major meeting in his career.

This situation quickly fueled concerns about its future in the Spanish capital. The Madrid press has raised the possibility of a departure this summer, while the management of Real Madrid would have considered recovering a large sum of money thanks to the sale of its midfielder. Under contract until 2029, Eduardo Camavinga would no longer meet the expectations of the new sporting project led by José Mourinho, who arrived on the Merengue bench with very high demands. The Special One wants to quickly identify players capable of playing his team and the Frenchman knows that he plays a decisive part in his future during this summer preparation. However, Camavinga refuses to give up and despite interest from several major European clubs, particularly from the Premier League, the player has rejected approaches and still wants to convince Madrid that he can become a major player again. After a period of rest and extensive individual preparation, he returned with the clear objective of gaining the trust of his new coach.

A preparation far from famous

But for the moment, the signals sent on the ground are not reassuring. Starting in the third pre-season friendly match against Fiorentina, Eduardo Camavinga once again displayed difficulties which are starting to make people talk. The Frenchman participated in Madrid’s first goal with an assist, but this positive action was not enough to mask a performance considered worrying. Lack of rhythm, technical approximations, hesitations in his decision-making and some unusual ball losses gave the impression of a player still far from his best level. One sequence in particular, with a missed test widely relayed on social networks, reinforced criticism around his current state of form. After several already mixed appearances against Alcorcón and Leganés, this new outing did not allow the Frenchman to score decisive points with Mourinho. He had an ideal opportunity with the absence of many executives, but the 23-year-old midfielder failed to seize this opportunity.

The situation could quickly become even more complicated with the gradual return of globalists and direct competitors to the Madrid squad. The summer preparation had provided a favorable context for Camavinga, but the competition will step up a notch in the coming days. The players who participated in the 2026 World Cup will gradually return to the group, including profiles capable of occupying the same areas of the pitch. The arrival of Bernardo Silva adds a new threat for the Frenchman, since the Portuguese can play in a more central role in midfield. The expected return of Aurélien Tchouaméni should also strengthen competition in the midfield, while the Rodri file could still completely change the hierarchy if Real Madrid manages to attract the Manchester City player. For Camavinga, time is running out, and the next friendly matches will be essential to reverse the trend and remind us why Real Madrid had bet on him. But with the return of executives, Mourinho’s choices will be scrutinized and the Frenchman will have to quickly find his best face to prevent doubts from becoming a real crisis.
