The appointment of Zinedine Zidane as head of the France team arouses immense emotion in Marseille, and more particularly in Castellane, the district where he grew up. For many residents, seeing the former Blues playmaker rise to the position of coach represents more than a sporting success, it is proof that it is possible to leave this working-class neighborhood and reach the highest summits of world football according to RMC Sport.
Always very attached to his roots, Zidane has never cut ties with Castellane. Last May, he notably sent a message in a video of encouragement to the U14s of FC La Castellane before their Coupe de Provence final. A gesture which had a considerable impact on the club, attracting many young licensees and further strengthening the status of model that he embodies among new generations. Asked by RMCone of the residents of Castellane said: “it gives hope for young people and for ourselves, to say that we come from Castellane and that we can succeed, that we can become someone great”.
