Barça has already anticipated the next stage of the Camp Nou construction site. According to information from Mundo Deportivothe Catalan club has sent a request to LaLiga in order to play the entire first part of the 2027-2028 season at the Montjuïc stadium. The reason: work to install the roof of the new stadium is due to begin in June 2027 and could force Barça to temporarily leave its enclosure. Even if the project is announced for a duration of approximately four and a half months, until mid-October, the Blaugrana management prefers to take the lead to avoid any delay likely to disrupt its schedule.
This solution would notably allow Barça to play all its home matches in Montjuïc, including European matches, a significant constraint since UEFA requires clubs to play the same phase of competition in a single stadium. The Catalan club would therefore find a venue that it already knows, after having played there during the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 seasons during the renovation of the Camp Nou. At the same time, work continues with the objective of gradually opening part of the third stand during the 2027-2028 season, subject to the agreement of the municipal authorities.
