Manchester United have their first big recruit of the summer: Andrey Santos. Third in the Premier League last season and qualified directly for the next Champions League, the Mancunian club needed to strengthen to fill several departures, including that of Casemiro in midfield. The 34-year-old Brazilian international should a priori join Inter Miami, where he would reunite with an old acquaintance, Lionel Messi.

In recent weeks, several names have been circulating to take over from the former Madrilenian. That of Aurélien Tchouameni has often come back, but it is difficult to dislodge the French international when we know the importance he now has with the Merengues. Same for Mateus Fernandes, who left for Tottenham for €98 million. As revealed The Athletic this Wednesday, it was towards Andrey Santos that the Mancunian leaders turned. A slightly less expensive route.

A deal that suits everyone

Author of 3 goals and 4 assists in 43 matches this season under the colors of Chelsea, the Brazilian international (6 caps) counted in the eyes of Enzo Maresca then Liam Rosenior, but without asserting himself as a starter. The former Strasbourg player must have existed in the shadow of the duo Enzo Fernandez – Moises Caicedo, untouchable throughout the season. This departure to Manchester United therefore seems to suit all parties.

Under the orders of Michael Carrick, Andrey Santos should find a more important role, while Chelsea will recover almost 60 million euros (56 + 2 bonus) on an item purchased for 12.5 million euros from Vasco da Gama in 2023. The Blues will retain a 10% resale clause as well. Not selected for the World Cup by Carlo Ancelotti, the 22-year-old player will have an opportunity to showcase himself for the next rounds of his selection, in full reconstruction. Note that Atalanta midfielder Ederson is still expected at Old Trafford. MU would also like to recruit one or two other players in the heart of the game.
