Morten Hjulmand’s transfer to Atlético de Madrid is far from complete. According to A.S.Sporting Portugal rejected a first offer from the Colchoneros and does not intend to negotiate at any price. The president of the Lisbon club, Frederico Varandas, has set the bar high by demanding at least 40 million euros to let his midfielder leave. “We refused the first offer and, if they do not agree on his value, he will stay at the club”warned the Portuguese leader, closing the door to a reduced price departure.

Despite this firm stance, Hjulmand would like to join Atlético, with whom a five-year contract is already in preparation. Diego Simeone sees the Danish international (27 caps) as a major reinforcement for his midfield, capable of providing more balance and being associated with Pablo Barrios. His arrival would be part of an ambitious transfer window, after the signing of Alejandro Grimaldo and pending that of Kang-In Lee. It now remains to be seen whether Madrid’s leaders will agree to increase their offer to meet Sporting’s demands.
