There will be entertainment all over France this Tuesday. Firstly because it will be July 14, a national holiday. Then because the coincidence of the calendar placed the semi-final of the 2026 World Cup between France and Spain on this same date. For law enforcement, the menu promises to be tough with an XXL deployment.
In any case, this is what emerged from the announcement made this Sunday by Laurent Nuñez. On BMTV, the Minister of the Interior took stock of the security measures that will be put in place that day, but also for the evening. In Paris alone, around “5,000” police officers and gendarmes will be on the job.
The latter will be called upon before 10 a.m., when the traditional July 14 military parade on the Champs-Élysées will begin. The World Cup semi-final will begin at 9 p.m. and will therefore be followed throughout France by Les Bleus supporters.
France-Spain, “no tolerance for excesses” warns Laurent Nuñez
Laurent Nuñez took advantage of his interview to look back on the evening of last Thursday, during the quarter won by Kylian Mbappé and his team against Morocco (2-0). The minister estimated that from a security point of view, the evening had “overall rather very, very well gone”.
A few incidents still took place, resulting in 89 arrests, according to Laurent Nuñez who also deplored
“the death of a seventeen-year-old girl (…) following a terrible accident”. In anticipation of the match against Spain, the politician was keen to point out that there would be no
“no tolerance for overflows”.
