A never-ending affair. A few hours after France’s victory against Paraguay, Kylian Mbappé was the victim of racist comments from a Paraguayan senator. If the 2018 world champion then did not hesitate to respond, the latter did it again by violently insulting the captain of the Blues. This Thursday, the story takes an even more important turn… Indeed, Celeste Amarilla’s lawyer, Guillermo Duarte Cacavelos, threatened Kylian Mbappé with extradition to Paraguay if the captain of the France team did not withdraw his remarks against his client.
While the FFF made a report to the public prosecutor’s office and the latter opened proceedings in France, Celeste Amarilla’s lawyer seems more determined than ever. “Celeste did not engage in punishable behavior in Paraguay”notably estimated the representative of the senator to the local channel ABC Cardinalnot without forgetting to recall the protection enjoyed by Celeste Amarilla. “Parliamentary immunity is a protection which we have not yet even begun to debate, because we believe that this question cannot reach the stage of the application of French law since the actions in question are not punishable in Paraguay”.
An unfounded threat
The representative of the Paraguayan senator therefore wants to attack the French player for defamation and thus force him to appear before the courts of his country. “Since what constitutes defamation or slander for us is also a criminal offense in France, we can take legal action against Mbappé. He could be extradited to answer for his actions in Paraguay.assured the lawyer of the South American politician. A threat which, however, has no legal basis, as recalled by article 696-4 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure. “Extradition is not granted when the requested person has French nationality”thus specifies French law.
In addition to the texts, it also seems difficult to imagine the government of Paraguay, which has dissociated itself from Celeste Amarilla and apologized to France, formulating an official extradition request. In short, Kylian Mbappé does not risk much. It remains to be seen whether this affair – which is taking a totally crazy turn – will not destabilize the Real Madrid star, who will challenge Morocco in a few hours for a place in the last four of the 2026 World Cup.
