Clément Lenglet will leave Atlético de Madrid after four years at the Metropolitano, thus putting an end to his Madrid adventure despite a contract running until 2028 according to Diario ABC. Arriving initially on loan from FC Barcelona in the summer of 2024, the French defender was then definitively recruited by the Colchoneros the following year. At 31, he is now preparing to relaunch his career elsewhere. Indeed, Benfica appears to be the next probable destination for someone who has already played at Nancy, Sevilla FC, Tottenham and Aston Villa.
Under the rojiblanco jersey, Lenglet initially occupied an important place during his first season, playing 36 matches in all competitions. But the dynamic has gradually reversed. Less used during the last exercise by Simeone, the defender saw his playing time drop to 24 appearances. His difficulties were also highlighted during the Champions League quarter-final against FC Barcelona, a match where he was directly involved in both opposing goals.
