Portugal Saint-Germain. With Vitinha, João Neves, Nuno Mendes and Gonçalo Ramos, the Lusitanian country is present in force in the French capital. The influence of Luis Campos is certainly no stranger to this. It was he who was also behind the transfer of Renato Sanches from LOSC to PSG in 2022. The residents of the Parc de Princes therefore paid €15 million to buy out his last year of contract and make him a valuable reinforcement in the midfield. Unlike Lille, the Ile-de-France residents were not entitled to the best version of the 2016 Golden Boy.

548 days of absence in 4 years

Used 27 times during his first season (2 goals), he did not really impress during the little playing time he had (905 minutes played over the entire season). It must be said that he was injured 5 times during the season, missing 21 matches and 116 days of competition. Overall disappointing, the Portuguese was subsequently exfiltrated. Indeed, he was sent on loan to AS Roma, then managed by his compatriot José Mourinho. But mayonnaise didn’t catch on in Italy. Once again, he was stopped by his body. He was injured 7 times that season (23 matches and 146 days of absence).

Which is not necessarily the best way to get back on track. After 12 matches and 1 goal (261 minutes played), he was shipped to Paris. But he didn’t stay there. To put him in the best possible conditions, he was sent on loan to Benfica, the club where he exploded. At home, Renato Sanches has not really rediscovered the spark and his magic. Used 21 times in all competitions (1 goal, 634 minutes played), he once again spent time in the infirmary. 176 days to be precise. He was hit 4 times, missing 35 games. Returned to PSG, the 28-year-old was sent out on loan again.

Its market value has collapsed

This time, he took charge of Greece and Panathinaikos. Once again, the same scenario played out. The Portuguese has had a series of injuries. Five this time. He was absent for 110 days and for 19 matches. If we believed in a return to favor at the start of 2026, the native of Lisbon did not ultimately convince during his 24 appearances in the Pana jersey, including 12 as a starter (1 goal, 1 assist, 1205 minutes played). The Greek team did not keep him beyond his loan and sent him back to Paris, where he is still under contract until 2027.

The Parisians hope to get rid of him again this summer, permanently or during a fourth and final loan. But things aren’t really happening at the gate at the moment. Rumors have surfaced of interest from West Ham, freshly down in the Championship. But there’s nothing serious at the moment. It must be said that clubs do not necessarily want to take the risk with a player who is losing momentum and is physically unreliable who has missed 548 days of competitions and 98 matches over the last 4 years (21 injuries). Its market value has also fallen to €2 million according to transfermarkt. When it was signed in Paris, it was estimated at €28 million. At 28, Renato Sanches can still find his best level. We will have to make the right choice this summer of 2026 to finally get back on track.
