Since his departure from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024, Kylian Mbappé has been particularly discreet when it comes to talking about his former club. Between his move to Real Madrid, his new sporting objectives and the legal conflict which still opposes him to the Parisian leaders, the French striker has rarely spoken on the subject. This is why his exit last Thursday on PSG’s second consecutive Champions League title had already been widely commented on. A reaction expected for several weeks after the new European triumph of the capital club.

It must be said that relations between the two parties have deteriorated considerably since the departure of the French international. Still engaged in a legal battle with PSG over several tens of millions of euros in salaries and bonuses that he believes are due to him, Mbappé did not leave Paris in the best conditions. The drama of his last year at the club, marked by his sidelining during the summer of 2023 then by numerous tensions around his future, has left its mark. In the eyes of many, the divide seemed complete with the capital club.

Mbappé is honest

However, in an interview given to Parisian while he is currently in the United States with the France team to compete in the 2026 World Cup, the captain of the Blues made particularly calm remarks regarding his former club. Asked about the personalities who mattered most in his career, the Real Madrid player did not forget PSG or its president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi. “In Paris, of course, there are the coaches. And President Nasser, too! Everyone only remembers the end, which is normal because leaving PSG is almost impossible. I knew that if I left, I would end up in this situation. But before all that, I can’t lie, he did a lot of things for my family and me. When I have a conflict with someone and I think I deserve to win it, I have no problem and have no qualms about going through with it. But we must not confuse everything: Nasser is someone I respect. »

The 27-year-old striker even wanted to recall the importance of PSG in his career. “Because if today I am at Real Madrid and captain of the France team, Paris Saint-Germain and Nasser Al-Khelaïfi have a central place. It’s the club I stayed at the longest (2017-2024), I can’t pretend it didn’t exist. It’s not possible and it’s not who I am. And then, in Madrid, there is president Florentino Pérez, he has always been very affectionate with me, always tried to put me in the best conditions and wanted the best for me. » A speech which does not end the conflict between the two parties, but which contrasts with the silence observed since his departure.
