It is an established fact. AS Roma wants Mason Greenwood (24 years old) and the Englishman wants to join the Louve club. Yesterday, the Italian press announced that an agreement had been reached between the star of Olympique de Marseille and the Giallorossi. Greenwood would sign a contract until 2031 and receive an annual salary of €4 million net. On paper, the two parties are made to get along.
However, as was indicated yesterday in our columns, Roma must still find common ground with Olympique de Marseille. The Phocaeans are still hoping for €55 million when Roma are only offering €40 million. Marseille does not intend to negotiate downwards since it should be remembered that 40% of the amount of the resale of Greenwood will go into the pockets of Manchester United. However, Il Tempo assures that the Romans have hope. Clearly, the transalpine newspaper affirms that the club coached by Gian Piero Gasperini thinks it can complete an agreement with OM on the basis of €45 million plus bonuses.
Robinio Vaz pushes behind the scenes
Waiting for, The Corriere dello Sport explains that certain elements within AS Roma are urging management not to demand too much patience. The Giallorossi have yet to induct their new sporting director, but the newspaper explains that the Romans should not hang around too long. “Greenwood is waiting. But time, in football, is rarely an ally. As the days pass, the risk increases that other clubs could interfere in the discussions between Roma and the player’s father-agent. A very real danger, especially when it comes to a footballer who continues to generate enormous international enthusiasm. AS Roma must act as quickly as possible, even if they can count on internal support.
Arriving in Italy last winter, Robinio Vaz, who some media announced was leaving on loan, visibly played a big role behind the scenes for Greenwood’s arrival in Rome. “Robinho Vaz also plays a special role, having established a very close relationship with Greenwood during his time at Marseille. Contacts between the two men never stopped and the Roma striker praised to his friend the potential of the giallorosso environment, the work of Gasperini and the opportunities he could find in the capital. A sincere invitation, born from a complicity forged on the ground. (…) A collaboration which has nourished mutual esteem and which is today transforming into a small but significant decisive step on the transfer market”writes the daily. It remains to be seen whether this will be enough.
