Stade de Reims is preparing to complete a new record sale for a Ligue 2 club. One year after having sold Valentin Atangana to Al-Ahli for €25 million, then sold Patrick Zabi to Paris FC for the same sum this winter (the transfer will be effective from July 1), the Marnais have reached an agreement for the transfer of Ewen Jaouen for €25 million, plus a €3.5 million bonus, with Newcastle, revealed in heart Canal+ And The Team this Friday.

The young goalkeeper (20 years old) has reached an agreement with the Magpies around a 4-year contract. He should soon arrive in the north of England and will be in competition with the experienced Nick Pope (34 years old). The Frenchman has a real card to play with his future club. Loaned with an option to buy from Southampton, Aaron Ramsdale, the other starter this season, is not yet guaranteed to stay at the club. The arrival of another goalkeeper cannot be ruled out.

Revealed in Ligue 2 this season

There is no doubt that the international Espoirs (2 selections) received some guarantees before crossing the Channel. He remains on a solid year in Ligue 2 where he missed the rise to the elite. Reims finished 6th, outside the play-off places, but with the 4th best defense in the championship. With 35 goals conceded, Jaouen, starter for 34 days, still achieved 15 clean sheets. This was his very first successful season.

He was loaned to Rodez two years ago, then Dunkirk last year where he was not always installed in the starting lineup. His performances this season have allowed him to reveal himself and distinguish himself among recruiters, particularly English ones. Besides Newcastle, Chelsea, Brighton and Tottenham were monitoring him. Better yet, Real Madrid even thought of him for the post-Thibaut Courtois era. To do this, it will already be necessary to validate the next step and turn taken in his young career.
