Luca Zidane, it’s over

One week before the start of the World Cup, Luca Zidane ended the suspense concerning the position of Algeria goalkeeper.

Singled out during the African Cup of Nations for his performance against Nigeria in the quarter-finals, Luca Zidane has since had to deal with the distrust of Fennecs supporters. So much so that many of them campaigned in favor of Oussama Benbot, the USM Alger goalkeeper.

And the distrust was all the greater since Luca Zidane had seriously injured his face at the end of April. Victim of a concussion after a shock against Almeria, the Granada goalkeeper recovered with a broken jaw and chin and had to be operated on. Enough to make his presence at the World Cup uncertain for a while.

If he has since worn a protective mask, Luca Zidane is there and there. This is evidenced by his monstrous performance delivered during Algeria’s first preparation match against the Netherlands. Because if the Fennecs came to win 1-0 in Rotterdam, they certainly owe it to the sumptuous goal scored by Anis Hadj Moussa in the last minutes of the match, but also to the performance of ZZ’s son.

Luca Zidane did it all

Luca Zidane in fact disgusted the Dutch attackers one by one, making a series of decisive interventions against Tijjani Reijnders, Cody Gakpo and Donyell Malen. Reflex saves, decisive exits or flights: the native of Marseille deployed the panoply of the perfect goalkeeper and well deserved his status as man of the match. Above all, this performance should put an end to the debate around the Algeria goalkeeper.

Placed in Group J, Algeria will first face Argentina on June 17 before moving on to face Jordan on June 23 then Austria on June 28. Previously, the Fennecs will face Bolivia on June 10 in Kansas City as the last preparation match.
