A Tunisian executive was injured during the preparation match for the 2026 World Cup against Austria on Monday.

Tunisia couldn’t do worse. Just over a week before the start of the 2026 World Cup in North America, the Carthage Eagles experienced a very complicated evening this Monday evening at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna against Austria.

Yet quickly in numerical superiority after the exclusion of Konrad Laimer in the 37th minute, Sabri Lamouchi’s men lost to those of Ralf Rangnick (1-0) during a preparation match for the next World Cup.

Worse still, the team’s star Hannibal Mejbri caused serious concern among his staff. The Burnley attacking midfielder was forced to give up his place in the 78th minute due to an injury sustained after a nasty sole from Austrian defender Kevin Danso.

Hannibal Mejbri limped out

On the ground for several seconds, Mejbri limped across the entire field to give way to Mohamed Hajj-Mahmoud. Bad omen images for Tunisia, a few days before flying to Mexico to face Sweden, Japan and the Netherlands in Group F.

For the moment, no further details have been provided by the Tunisian staff regarding the state of health of their number 10.
