The Brazilian press revealed the content of the exchange between Marquinhos and Gabriel after the Gunner’s missed shot on goal during the Champions League final.

This is one of the striking images of the Champions League final. As soon as PSG’s victory was acquired at the end of the penalty shootout, Marquinhos, rather than running to celebrate with his teammates, went to console his compatriot Gabriel.

The Brazilian defender of the Gunners, who had asked to be the fifth shooter from Mikel Arteta, had just precipitated the loss of his team by shooting into the clouds of Budapest. Obviously devastated, the former Lille player saw Marquinhos take him in his arms and say a few words to him before his teammates in turn came to comfort him.

The sequence obviously made headlines in the Brazilian press. So much so that Globo Esporte asked a dubbing specialist, the actor Gustavo Machado, to determine what the Parisian captain had slipped to his compatriot.

“Stay strong, you’ve had a fucking season”

And according to the voice actor, Marquinhos would have whispered to him:
“Stay strong, you’ve had a damn season. » And this before being joined by another compatriot, Gabriel Martinelli, the Arsenal striker, who allegedly slipped him “Lift your head, stay strong!” »

Marquinhos’ gesture left a lasting impression. Particularly among the Gunners. “He is a gentleman, said Martin Ă–degaard, Arsenal captain. He is probably one of the most experienced players currently active. He’s already been through both sides of a final like this and he knows what we’re going through…”
