Monza validated its return to Serie A despite a defeat against Catanzaro (0-2), thanks to its lead acquired during the first leg and a better ranking over the entire season. In a packed stadium, Bianco’s men resisted until the end, buoyed by overall management of the double confrontation which allowed them to return to the elite a year after their relegation. For their part, the Calabrians tried everything to reverse the situation, driven by a wonderful reaction of pride, without succeeding in making up for the accumulated delay.
However, the meeting was indecisive for a long time, with Catanzaro enterprising and dangerous on several occasions, notably around Iemmello, well contained by the Lombard defense. Monza ended up making the difference from set pieces, with Fellipe Jack opening the score, symbol of a team efficient in key moments. Despite the visitors’ reaction in the second half and several heated situations, the Biancorossi held their advantage over the two matches to achieve a deserved rise in Serie A.
