The Ligue 1 season is over and now all that remains is to know the name of the winner of the Ligue-Ligue 2 play-off currently being contested between OGC Nice and AS Saint-Étienne. If Nantes and Metz have already received their ticket to the lower level, it is not only the clubs which are affected by this game of elevators. The referees are too.
This season again, three of them were demoted to the lower level. The FFF’s Federal Arbitration Commission (CFA) made its decision after judging and analyzing the evaluations of all the professional referees working in Ligue 1 this season. The three relegated men in black are: Gaël Angoula, Hakim Ben El Hadj and Benoît Millot.
To make its decision, the CFA studies in particular the quality of relations with the players, the technical accuracy of decisions, the way in which matches are managed, without forgetting the use of VAR, the physical condition of the referee or even the regularity of performances.
Ligue 1, relegated referees will have to work
Asked to comment on these three relegations, Pierre Ménès delivered his verdict on his YouTube channel. “A little surprised for Gaël Angoula. Less for Hakim Ben El Hadj and Benoît Millot who I found quite regularly very bad this season. Notably Benoît Millot who, beyond his sometimes questionable refereeing decisions, had an extraordinarily arrogant attitude. I think that must also play a role. »
And to conclude with a note of hope for the three concerned.
“Being relegated is like a team, it doesn’t mean you’re going to spend your whole life there. You can be promoted the following season. It’s up to them to question themselves and it’s up to them to work to return to Ligue 1.”
