The Gunners surely welcomed the appointment of Daniel Siebert as referee in the Champions League final between PSG and Arsenal. The German referee was in fact already blowing the whistle during the semi-final return between Arsenal and Atletico Madrid.
The Londoners had no reason to complain about the Berlin native’s decisions… Particularly when Antoine Griezmann was the victim of an obvious foul from Riccardo Calafiori in the area. Daniel Siebert preferred to call a prior foul from Marc Pubill on Gabriel. A choice which provoked the anger of the Spanish camp.
But it is not only in Spain that Daniel Siebert is singled out. It is the same in Germany where it is clearly not unanimous. “He doesn’t always know how to be consistent in his decisions. Whether for fouls or for offside, he does not always know whether to whistle or let the play continue. In terms of his choices, he is too hesitant”lamented the former icon of the Mannschaft, Lothar Matthaüs at the microphone of Sky Sport.
An attitude that does not pass
And the former Bayern Munich playmaker is not the only one to criticize the 42-year-old referee. Several Bundesliga coaches have attacked him this season. This is particularly the case of Ole Werner, the Leipzig coach, who notably pointed out his attitude following the elimination of the RBL against Bayern Munich in the German Cup.
“I wanted to go meet him at the end of the match, but he completely ignored me when I tried to shake his hand. I don’t know what I did to himhe confided in comments relayed by The Team. We made eye contact but he preferred not to respond to me for some reason. I have difficulty understanding his attitude. »
