The verdict came during the weekend. After a long and tiring season, Girona was finally relegated to the second division. An industrial disaster for the team which is part of the City Group family and which participated in the Champions League not so long ago. But the Spanish club has not managed to save its skin this year, marked by 9 wins, 14 draws and 15 defeats. He therefore accompanies Mallorca and Oviedo to the lower level. But as is often the case in these cases, Girona knows that it will lose several players during the offseason.

Several departures are expected

“A Girona for sale”announced this Tuesday the daily A.S.which specifies that departures could allow the club to better support the descent from a financial point of view. At the top of the list of elements that can go away, we find Azzedine Ounahi. Arriving last summer from Marseille, the Moroccan finished the season with 5 goals and 3 assists in 24 appearances in all competitions. Even before the relegation, we explained to you on our site that Girona is pushing to send the Atlas Lion to Manchester City, another City Group club. The idea being to secure the player whose release clause is set at €20 million.

This Tuesday, A.S. adds that the player who shone in Spain is on the shelves of English and Spanish clubs. The 2026 World Cup could allow it to attract other suitors. Like him, Vladyslav Vanat (24 years old) is also preparing to pack up. La Liga teams, including Villarreal, are attracted by the Ukrainian footballer under contract until 2030. Viktor Tsygankov (28 years old) is in the sights of Ajax Amsterdam. Author of 7 goals and 5 assists this season, he is on the starting ramp especially as he only has one year left on his contract. Arnau Martinez is in the same situation.

An uncertain future

At 23, the man who already has 121 matches in La Liga wants to continue in Spain, where doors will open this summer. That of Girona already is. The club are sellers and will listen to all offers for the right-back. For its part, Marca adds other names to this list. “Donny Van de Beek, Asprilla and many others are cases at risk”assures the Iberian media which also questions the case of Cristhian Stuani (39 years old). The latter has an option to extend his stay for an additional season if both parties agree. His future is not yet decided.

Ditto for other veterans like Daley Blind (36 years old), Alex Moreno (32 years old) or Axel Witsel (37 years old), who arrived free. Players on loan, like Thomas Lemar (Atlético), Bryan Gil (Tottenham), Claudio Echeverri (Manchester City) or Marc-André ter Stegen (Barça) will not stay. As far as the coach, Michel, is concerned, nothing has been decided yet. Marca indicates that he has received offers from other clubs but is very attached to Girona. He plans to stay if the club offers him a suitable team. We will not necessarily have to count on the support of Manchester City, who should not send players to D2. But City Group will find a way to support the project. In the meantime, around ten players will leave, whether they belong to the club or are on loan.
