Thunderclap around the Spanish selection for the World Cup. No Real Madrid player appears on the list revealed by Luis de la Fuente.

La Roja is fixed. Less than a month before the start of the 23rd edition of the World Cup scheduled for the United States, Canada and Mexico, Spanish coach Luis de la Fuente unveiled this Monday noon the list of 26 players selected to try to win a second world title, after that obtained in 2010.

Unsurprisingly, several executives are in the group, starting with Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams, both recovered from their physical problems at the end of the season. The group also has a strong representation of FC Barcelona, including Pedri, Gavi, Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres, proof of the continuity in the coach’s choices.

No Real Madrid players

In defense, the return of Eric Garcia attracts attention, while Joan Garcia is one of the three goalkeepers retained, to the detriment in particular of Alex Remiro. A decision which confirms the desire of the staff to rely on a renewed hierarchy in certain key positions. In midfield, Fabian Ruiz will represent Paris Saint-Germain, alongside Mikel Merino and Martin Zubimendi, two complementary profiles in the Spanish midfield.

Highlight of this list: the absence of any Real Madrid player, a first in this context and a strong choice by the coach. Spain will begin its competition on June 15 against Cape Verde, before facing Saudi Arabia on June 21 then Uruguay on the 27th in the group stage, with the ambition of going far in the tournament.
