After the relegation of FC Nantes, Waldemar Kita must have gritted his teeth when he saw the results of his former coach.

At the end of April, while FC Nantes was heading straight for Ligue 2, Waldemar Kita settled a few scores during an interview with Eurosport. The president-owner of the Canaries had singled out one of his former coaches, Luis Castro, appointed last summer and sacked in December.

“My biggest mistake? The recruitment of Luis Castro. We discussed and hesitated a lot with Franck, I should have been more vigilant. This coach will bring down two clubs in the same year. I shouldn’t have taken this trainer without experience. I said it again and again. We never took a coach who came from Ligue 2. This guy is nearby, he’s an educator. He can’t succeed. I’m yelling at the club today and everyone tells me I’m right. After the friendly matches, I said we had to release him. »

At the time, this outing by Kita on Castro had already caused talk. Because the Nantes president accused his former coach of having reached an agreement very quickly with another club, Levante. And the club in question, contrary to Kita’s words, ultimately did not go down.

Kita was totally wrong

Generally speaking, in Nantes, Castro could not be held solely responsible for the failed season of a club in adrift (as the sequel proved). And the Portuguese technician could not have been blamed for the possible relegation of Levante either.

When he arrived, the Valencian club was last in La Liga with 10 points in 16 games. With Castro, in 22 days, the promoted player collected 32 points and held on at the last minute on Saturday evening, undoubtedly to the great displeasure of Waldemar Kita. Not so bad this Luis Castro, right?
