After UBB’s coronation in the Champions Cup this Saturday, Matthieu Jalibert made a reference to a speech by PSG coach Luis Enrique.

The Bordeaux-Bègles Union did it! For the second year in a row, the Gironde team led by Yannick Bru won the Champions Cup this Saturday in Bilbao, at the end of a final dominated from start to finish against Leinster (41-19). A historic feat.

Indeed, the UBB has entered the closed circle to have successfully completed the “back-to-back” in the most prestigious of European competitions. It is the sixth club after Leicester (2001 and 2002), Leinster (2011 and 2012), Saracens (2016 and 2017), Stade Rochelais (2022 and 2023) and the RCT treble (2013, 2014 and 2015).

After the final, Matthieu Jalibert did not hide his happiness. While speaking to France Télévisions, the Bordeaux fly-half notably paid a little tribute to Luis Enrique, referring to a striking phrase from the PSG coach.

“It’s even more beautiful. I like Luis Enrique’s phrase who said that the easiest was always the first (in reference to PSG’s victory in the Champions League last season, editor’s note), said Jalibert. So we were able to do the second. We’re getting a little deeper into the story, it’s magnificent. The group deserves it for all the investment in the season. It’s just beautiful. »

Jalibert: “We came to Bilbao to realize our dream, to rewrite history”

“ The second half was complicated but we made things easy in the first half, we had a good cushioncontinued the French international. It was hard because we got yellow, we suffered, but we came to Bilbao to make our dream come true, to rewrite history, there you go, back-to-back, just magnificent. We always take 2-3 days to complete. But what’s nice is seeing this world. We arrived by bus, there were only people from Bordeaux, we said “wow”.
