Audiences: Lens largely dominates PSG

The victory of RC Lens against Nice in the final of the Coupe de France allowed France 2 to achieve a much better audience than last season with PSG-Reims.

This is the other great success of the evening. While RC Lens dominated OGC Nice (3-1) in a magnificent atmosphere at the Stade de France, this Coupe de France final allowed the broadcaster to achieve an excellent evening in terms of audience.

Thanks to this great poster, France 2 finished at the top of the ranking established by Médiamétrie with 4.06 million viewers, or a market share of 24.7%. A result that really pleases commentator Fabien Lévêque.

For comparison, last season’s final, between Paris Saint-Germain and Stade de Reims, attracted 2.96 million viewers. The market share was also lower (17.8% PDA).

A big event for Lens

How can this fairly significant difference be explained? Beyond the strong popularity of RC Lens, the rarity of the event necessarily played a major role. It was only the fourth Coupe de France final for the Sang et Or, the first since 1998, and the opportunity to lift the trophy for the very first time. For Nice, it was also only the second final since the start of the century, after the one lost in 2022 against Nantes.

For PSG, last season’s Coupe de France final was the 8th in 11 years, and was just an appetizer before the Champions League final the following weekend. Enough to cause a certain weariness, or “trivialize” this meeting.
