Pierre Sage, the worrying announcement about his future

While he has just had a historic season at the head of RC Lens, Pierre Sage is in contact with other clubs. The former OL coach is not sure of staying with the Sang et Or.

The party is complete for RC Lens. After its second place in Ligue 1, synonymous with qualification for the next Champions League, the Artesian club won the first Coupe de France in its history by beating OGC Nice (3-1) in a Stade de France predominantly Blood and Gold.

This trophy is a real consecration for a club which has (re)built itself perfectly over the years, and which made the very good choice to seek out Pierre Sage last summer. For his first full season on a Ligue 1 bench, the former OL coach came close to perfection with a record of 70 points in 34 league matches, and therefore this Cup victory.

As is often the case, when a team like this reaches such a form of fulfillment, we wonder how long it can last. Next season will have to be confirmed, with a reshuffled squad, obviously, because certain elements will be called upon. Starting with Pierre Sage himself.

Pierre Sage wants to stay, but…

In the euphoria of the Cup victory, the 47-year-old technician was asked about his future. Even if this seems to be his priority, the Lensois coach could not guarantee that he would still be at Bollaert next season.

“There is no reason for this to evolve, but I admit that there are also a lot of contacts, confided Pierre Sage on France 2. Afterwards I am under contract, but I will try to honor it. I am very happy at this club. Now is not really the time to talk about that…” This is a question that Lensois leaders will soon address…
