Florian Thauvin opened the scoring for RC Lens against OGC Nice in the Coupe de France final on Friday evening. Enough to make the Lensois supporters present at the Stade de France explode with joy.

Who else than Florian Thauvin, 2018 world champion and one of RC Lens’ major players this season, to open the scoring? The Sang et Or found the fault against OGC Nice in the final of the Coupe de France, Friday evening in Saint-Denis, with a flash of genius from “Flotov”, author of 11 goals and 6 assists in Ligue 1 and named in the team of the year during the UNFP Trophies.

In a delirious Stade de France, with a northern public on fire, an opening from Robin Risser allowed Matthieu Udol to overflow on the left, Jonathan Clauss completely missing his defensive intervention. Udol’s cross for Adrien Thomasson was too imprecise but Thauvin emerged to perform a high-class technical sequence: he controlled the ball with his sole before crossing his left shot. Maxime Dupé was unable to do anything.

Thauvin then offered a celebration that will be remembered since he avoided his teammates and then his team’s sidelines to go and celebrate, alone, with the Lensois corner on the other side of the field. The former Marseillais remained frozen in front of the supporters with his arms in the air, cheered, before returning to the field to jubilate with his teammates.
