Certain comments made by Medhi Benatia as part of the program The Bridge provoked a strong reaction.

Medhi Benatia’s adventure at Olympique de Marseille has barely ended, the now ex-sports director of the Marseille club continues to be talked about. His appearance on the show The Bridge, co-hosted by Aurélien Tchouaméni, was an opportunity for him to settle a few scores. But some of his comments didn’t go through at all.

The former footballer, for example, did not hesitate to evoke a sort of class contempt. “When I’m going to be a manager, I know it’s going to be hard. In France, I know that the first paper that will come out is negative. Because (he runs his hand over his face) I don’t fit into the codes of what they represent. If I didn’t go there, there was never going to be anyone like us (he runs his hand over his face again)
who could have roles like that. (…) »

And Medhi Benatia concludes: “You look at all the categories, U14, U16, U18, it’s just people like us. It means that we are good up to a certain level. Afterwards, when you get up there, there are no more. Why aren’t there people like us anymore? » An outing which angered Philippe Sanfourche, to say the least. The journalist wanted to react Wednesday evening on the set of the L’Équipe channel.

Medhi Benatia called to order

“It’s extremely serious. We live in a society where there are enough real problems of racism and stigmatization, not to resort to victimization when your name is Medhi Benatia, when you have had the career that you have had, when you have had the recognition that you have had, the wallet that you must have when you return home. He uses tricks somewhere that are unworthy. »

Then Philippe Sanfourche concluded. “Plus he doesn’t have much memory because he plays in Marseille. He who talks a lot about the institution and this club, he should remember that there is a president called Mr. Pape Diouf, who was Senegalese, who was the first black president in all of Europe, of a first division club. And have we ever asked the question of the credibility of Mr. Pape Diouf? Certainly not. So let him look at his record, his professional credibility in relation to his inexperience, and then he can go into these areas. »
