Former teammate of Kylian Mbappé with whom he notably won the World Cup in 2018, Presnel Kimpembe has very good memories of the captain of the Blues. The fact remains that he would sometimes have liked to see him more involved in defensive efforts, as he confided in the Génération After show on RMC.
“The pressure? He’s trained for that. He grew up with it his whole life, so it’s no surprise.”he says, conceding that people were “sometimes” too hard on him. “Defensive withdrawals? I always told him, he tired me with that when he wasn’t racing,”slips Kimpembe, before recalling the player that he is: “he has already shown it, whether at PSG or in the French team (that he was a leader). Even in Madrid he is able to take the team and elevate it. Afterwards, the results at PSG, and in particular the Champions League, did not give what we would have all dreamed of. You have to look on the bright side: Kylian is a very great player, everyone knows that.”
