A Moroccan international was invited to compare the current coach of the Atlas Lions, Mohamed Ouahbi to his predecessor Walid Regragui.

After having made the best days of the Moroccan selection, Walid Regragui decided to resign at the end of the CAN 2025 final – won on the field by Senegal (1-0 after), but finally awarded to Morocco on the green carpet. A resignation accepted a few weeks later by the FRMF.

To replace him, the Moroccan Federation chose to rely on Mohamed Ouahbi. A young Lego-Moroccan coach little known to the general public, although winner of the U20 World Cup last October with the Lion Cubs of the Atlas.

Summoned by the new coach of the Kingdom during the last international break, Souffian El Karouani was recently the guest of the Replay + show on the Moroccan channel 2M. On this occasion, the left side of Utrecht had to compare his new coach to his predecessor. A not-so-obvious question as the announcement of Mohamed Ouahbi’s list approaches, which should, barring any surprises, keep him for the 2026 World Cup.

Regragui or Ouahbi? “Tactically, I would say the current coach”

“They are not so di“, Souffian El Karouani first returned diplomatically, before continuing: “Tactically, I would say the current coach. And in terms of energy, Regragui. »

“But this trainer (Ouahbi) also transmits energy, he insisted. Every coach is different. But what he asks of us is good. So, for me, he does a good job. » A clever response to a question that could have embarrassed him.
